Inpatient Drug Rehab Centers:What to Expect

You do not have to struggle with addiction on your own. Learn more about finding inpatient drug rehab centers near you that can help!

Many people deal with addiction for the better parts of my lives. It's easy to understand how challenging it can be to admit you need help. Most people tend to think they can handle everything on their own until the day when they cannot. Admitting you need help is a scary concept. One of the biggest reasons why is because you have to admit that you were wrong about something. It's especially difficult if you have people telling you about your problem and knowing you need to work towards fixing it.

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers: Three Signs You May Need One

1. You have been behind the wheel of a car while drunk or high. When you drive drunk you are not only endangering yourself but you are endangering other drivers and pedestrians around you as well. You may have a problem if you have done this five times or more.

2. Your loved ones have held more than one or two interventions on your behalf. They express concern that your drinking or drug taking is having a dangerous impact on your life.

3. You have harmed yourself or others in the process. Your freedom has been threatened more than once or twice. Do you face withdrawal symptoms when you go without? That is a clear sign that something is wrong.

What To Expect From Drug Abuse Inpatient Rehab Treatment

This journey to be sober is one that involves a lot of baby steps. You are learning how to crawl and walk again, essentially.

  • You will be thinking a lot. You will think about things you have never thought of before. You will also be spending a lot of time in therapy, group, and individual. Be ready to talk a lot. Sometimes your mind will be out to get you. Your mind wants you to take that drug or drink again. The point is you cannot let it.

  • The detox process varies for each person. I was detoxing from tramadol. I went through a full month where my body was detoxing. My body twitched and ached. I could barely sleep even though I was tired. You may face the same situation. These are some of the very many responses patients have communicated during/after detox.

  • It also depends on the drug you took and how long. Some people go through a few weeks of detox. Others go through a month or so like I did. Either way, you should expect an intense time.

Your therapy does not end just because you leave a rehab center. You will need to go to meetings and therapy as part of your recovery. Rehab centers can offer everything from 30-90 day treatments. Find the one that fits your needs the best. Rehab is not a one-trick pony. Initial detox and rehab is not meant to cure you. It is the beginning of the process. You will need to take one day at a time.
